Hardwick Johnson and Chapter XIV member Sharon Hare

On April 15, 2026, the Hereditary Society Community celebrated with a glorious Dinner and Awards at the Library of Congress. Honorees are chosen based on character, and dedication who have been deemed worthy of special acknowledgement. They are given a lifetime Honorary membership to the Council of the Hereditary Society. This year, among the honorees were Jane Schleinzer and Sharon Hare, both members of Colonial Dames of America Chicago Chapter XIV.  A previous chapter member so honored was Kim Nagy, who received this honor in 2018.

Jane Schleinzer said she was so honored to receive this award. Sharon Hare stated that she was proud to be in the category with Kim and Jane, two of the women she most admires.

The cocktails and musical entertainment and dinner in the Library of Congress were almost surreal in its beauty.  The history of the building and all those who have passed thru it, can only inspire more Americans.  A night to be proud of for sure.
