Chapter XXXI South Carolina

Chapter XXXI– South Carolina

About

Founded: 2006

Chapter History: The South Carolina Chapter of the CDA traces its roots to the vision of Mrs. Frederick Fuller Kellogg, Jr., the founding President of the organization and a dedicated member of the Parent Chapter. Her decision to make South Carolina her second home sparked the creation of this vibrant State Chapter, expanding CDA’s reach and legacy in the Palmetto State.

Historic Preservation & Education: Chapter XXXI South Carolina earned national recognition with the CDA’s Preservation Award for its meticulous restoration of the historic steps at a property in Conway, showcasing its commitment to preserving colonial landmarks. In 2022, past President Suzanne Boone Katz received the coveted Proprietors pin as South Carolina’s designee to the Council of Proprietors whose job is to impart knowledge of the museum and its activities to their respective chapters. Suzanne has also served for several years as a valued member of the MVH Museum Committee. In 2020, Adryn Miller Sumner performed selections from her Lit Classical Concert for the CDA Fall Benefit, raising funds to support the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum. Adryn also recorded the Colonial Dames Waltz by John Philip Sousa, preserving a piece of musical heritage tied to the organization. The chapter proudly celebrates Laurie Aldinger, the current President General of CDA and recipient of the prestigious Van Rensselaer Award, for her exemplary leadership and dedication. The chapter continues to host thematic annual programs celebrating significant historical milestones and figures, including the Mayflower’s anniversary, colonial women such as Abigail Adams and Elizabeth Timothy and colonial arts and culture, with focuses on silversmiths and music. Through these efforts, the South Carolina Chapter continues to honor and promote the legacy of colonial America with distinction.
