About

Founded: 2011
History: The Colonial Dames of America’s Georgia Piedmont Chapter XXXIII was chartered on April 21, 2011. Organizing members came from as far as Athens, Fayetteville, and Rome, to be a part of the chapter’s first meeting at the historic William Harris Homestead in Monroe, Georgia. Organizing President Mary Robin Redfearn Towns presided over the chapter’s first meeting, which included a tour of the homestead’s charming 1825 log cabin, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the chapter continues to host its autumn meetings at the Homestead, as well as other historic venues throughout the year, including the Burge Plantation in Mansfield, Georgia.
Chapter Project: Chapter XXXIII is committed to participating in CDA Honor Roll, as well as supporting the MVHM&G in various capacities, including the 2025 Fall Benefit and the anniversaries celebration in Spring 2025. Chapter members voted to make the MVHM&G an evergreen, signature project in 2022. Chapter XXXIII has also supported the William Harris Homestead as a signature project since the chapter’s inception. Projects for the homestead have included signage for its smoke house, cemetery, black smith’s shop, and visitor entrances, as well as educational banners with historical information for school groups and tours. The Chapter also provided a $1,000 donation toward the restoration of an historic oil portrait of Dr. Crawford W. Long, the inventor of anesthesia, at the Crawford W. Long Museum in Jefferson, Georgia, as well as a donation to the State Botanical Garden of Georgia for the purchase of seasonal flowers in its Heirloom Garden. Over the years, the chapter has shown support for various historic venues throughout the state, including the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House in Milledgeville, the Swan House at the Atlanta History Center, and the Davis-Edwards House and McDaniel-Tichenor House, both in Monroe, Georgia.
