Chapter XXXIX Birmingham

CHAPTER XXXIX – Birmingham

About
Chapter Projects:
Old Mobile:
Chapter 39 is very excited that here in Alabama we have a Colonial site to sponsor. A French colony in Mobile was founded in 1702 and was a thriving community until the site was abandoned. A group called Friends of Old Mobile is attempting to establish it as an historical site and asked our past chapter president Connie Grund for help. Through a grant application, she was able to secure financing from The Colonial Dames of America, aided by a contribution from Chapter 39.
At historical spots there will be six panels, each dealing with a specific aspect of the site, all of which will credit The Colonial Dames of America and Chapter 39. This will give us wonderful recognition. It is thought that these excavations could lead to another historical find like Jamestowne here in Alabama. like Jamestowne here in Alabama.

American Village:
One Chapter Project is to partially fund the Junior Interpreter Program (student docents) at American Village Citizenship Trust in Montevallo, Alabama. The students learn American history at American Village, and then docent in the summer, teaching and reenacting historical vignettes for the visitors, teachers and student tours. We have been donating to the costumes, wigs and props for the Aaron Burr – Alexander Hamilton Duel which includes roles by their family members. The vignette informs the visitors about the importance of this event to the Burr and Hamilton families and the history of our country. We were very honored to receive the President’s Award for Excellence in 2018 for this project.
