About
Founded: 1990
Chapter History: Chapter XXV was established in Phoenix, Arizona in 1990, celebrating its 35th Anniversary in 2025. The chapter received its charter from the national organization on 25 April 1990, and met for its first organized meeting on 6 December 1990, under President Mrs. James Earl Haynes (Beth). Charter members included Mrs. John Martin Birmingham, Mrs. William Ray Parrish, Mrs. Charles Edgerton Rogers, Mrs. Elmer C. Scheidenheim, Mrs. Paul Volley DeVoe, and Mrs. Robert Taylor Drake. The Chapter holds at least two meetings of its general membership annually in the Phoenix area.
Historic Preservation & Education: During its history, the Chapter has made multiple donations of funding to support the national organization’s activities and The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden and had the honor of placing a bench honoring native Arizonan Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor in The Mount Vernon Hotel Garden. The chapter also purchased books on Chief Justice O’Connor for sale in the Hotel Museum’s gift shop. One project of which the Chapter is particularly proud is its project to provide Colonial Dames Baby Blankets for newborn female descendants of its members. Our hope is that these mementos will instill a sense of pride and ensure future interest in CDA membership.
